.ts converter

dear f-lists,

i have this video converter that's suppose to convert all videos to avi.
i had used it to convert .ts videos before.
but for some reason, the ones i downloaded this time can't be converted.
i don't know why.
any suggestion / recommendation for a freeware converter?
