oh-my-Geneva!
my sister was watching JK-Pop at MTV early this evening while i was preparing dinner. one of the songs, by Hideaki Tokunaga, sounds very familiar. it reminded me of Geneva Cruz's, a local singer, I will follow you, which was released in the early '90s. i was bothered. after dinner & all the ritual w/ our cats, i searched for the two songs to be sure.
Hideaki Tokunaga's Akai Sweet Pea is actually a revival. its original singer was Seiko Matsuda. i found a video of the song at youtube and yeah, it is the same as Geneva's version. the only difference is the language used and the musical arrangement. now i wonder if it was mentioned in her album that this song is actually an adaptation of a Japanese song from the early '80s. i haven't listened to Gen's songs in decades but i remember the chorus part well. ohwell~ that made me think that even before, when i was way younger and totally ignorant of other countries' songs, except from the US, i have once like a tune that's originally Japanese. haha
